Research on reading indicates students are more likely to read for pleasure when:

1. They feel confident about their reading ability
2. They're offered a selection of books they find interesting.

As students progress through Reading Eggs lessons they begin to recognize improvements in their reading skills, leading to increased confidence.

Upon entering the Reading Eggs Library, students have the option to explore book collections created by their teacher or independently search for and choose a book.

This freedom of choice, combined with a wide variety of books, helps students choose engaging titles, fostering a 'reading for pleasure' mindset.

How are books recorded in students' Reading Journals?

Upon successfully completing a quiz at the end of a Reading Eggs Library book with a score of 80% or more, students choose a trading card and the book is recorded in their Reading Journal.

Books and chapters read in Reading Eggspress are automatically added to students' Reading Journals.

Each entry in the journal includes the book title or the chapter number and title, the author, Lexile level and the date the book was read.

If the student rated the book and left a review while reading the book in the library, their rating is represented as colored stars in the journal.  
 

Students can add a comment for each title they enter in their Reading Journals, allowing them to reflect on and engage more deeply with their reading.

At the end of each page, they can also record any additional books they have read.

Celebrate reading with the Reading Journal:

To celebrate their reading achievements, students can personalize their reading journals each month by choosing a new page background, adding a personal touch to their journey.

Additional packs of stickers are rewarded for regular reading at intervals of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 125, 150, 200, 250, 300 and 350 days.

Special certificate pages and motivational posters are also added to their reading journals at these intervals.
 

At the beginning of each month, students can review the number of words they read daily and the final 10 books they read during the month are displayed as a stack of books.
 

As students look back at the books they enjoyed, they reflect on the growth of their reading skills.

The Reading Journal becomes a lasting celebration of each student's journey, fostering a love for reading.
 

Teacher tip!

Invite one of your avid readers to log in and share their Reading Journal with the class. Encourage discussions about their favorite books from the Reading Eggs Library. Demonstrate the process of choosing books, reading them together, answering quizzes and updating the Reading Journal. Teachers can also use screen captures to display journal pages in the class reading area or use the Demo Teacher view to access the library, read, answer quizzes and show how to use the journal effectively.
